What Pip does

  • Off unless you turn it on. Plans are written in English. If you turn on te reo Māori when you create a lesson, unit or worksheet, Pip adds a few everyday kupu.

  • Macrons. Pip is instructed to use correct macrons: Māori, whānau, ākonga, kōrero.

  • English alongside. When Pip uses te reo Māori, it gives the English meaning next to it.

  • Te ao Māori connections, in English. Lesson and unit plans include a short section with ideas for connecting the topic to te ao Māori or Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

What Pip is told not to do

  • Invent tikanga, pūrākau or claims about a particular iwi or hapū.

  • Make up local stories. Instead, it suggests you check with local iwi and hapū or your school's kaumātua.

  • Use te reo Māori it isn't confident is correct.

Please check Pip's work

Pip is an AI and can get te reo Māori and cultural content wrong. Treat what it writes as a draft, and check local stories and tikanga with local sources. If you spot a mistake, we'd be grateful if you emailed hello@lessonkea.nz.
